Roads and transport

The Randwick City Council area contains:

  • 263.8 km of local roads
  • 26.4 km of regional roads
  • 20.8 km of State roads
  • 3 km of roads owned and controlled by the Department of Housing, the Sydney Ports Authority or the Department of Lands.

The Council maintains the local and regional streets and roads while other authorities are responsible for the remainder. All arterial roads (freeways, highways and main roads) are managed by the RTA.

If you have an issue with a road and are unsure whether it belongs to the Council or another authority, please contact us

Also, please contact Ausgrid online or by calling 1800 044 808 if there is a problem with your street lights.

Sustainable Transport in Randwick City

Randwick City Council supports people who choose the many sustainable transport options when moving around our city (and beyond).

These options include walking, bike riding, catching public transport and car sharing.

Council is committed to the return of rail to Randwick City and is planning for Light Rail.

Why not leave your car at home and think about some healthier, greener options for your travel? Check out our Sustainable transport options page for some inspiration!

Parking

There's not much we can do to provide extra parking for residents, but we do operate a parking permit scheme to make parking easier.

Note that the Council provides community buses for specific purposes, and runs the road safety program SchoolSafe.
