Roads and footpaths

Randwick City Council manages Road and Footpath infrastructure throughout the Randwick local government area. Capital funds are provided to carry out works to roads and footpaths.

Roads

Roads are generally upgraded by removing and replacing the asphalt wearing course. This is more cost effective than allowing a road to deteriorate to the level of needing total reconstruction.

Council's Road Pavement Asset Management Plan (pdf 308 kb) documents our current road pavement asset management practices and strategies, identifies deficiencies, recommends areas for progressive improvement and models the most appropriate management of Council's road pavement assets into the future.

The 2011-12 Roads and Footpath program can be found on pages 31-34 of the Council's 2011-12 Annual Budget.

Footpaths

Randwick City Council is committed to improving safety for residents and the appearance of our streets. Over the past six years, we have focused on ensuring that every street in the City of Randwick has a footpath. This program has been running since 2003 and there is now a footpath on one side of most streets in the local government area.

In deciding footpath locations, Council engineers consider the placement of:

  • street lights
  • telephone and gas lines
  • access to schools, nursing homes, shops and bus stops.

Easy access ramps for prams and wheelchairs will also be installed. If a footpath is going to be built in your street, Council will contact you closer to the time of construction in order to properly assess access requirements.

The 2009-10 Footpaths Program (pdf 25 kb) lists the streets where a new footpath will be constructed and streets where existing footpaths will be reconstructed.
