Public places

Randwick City Council helps keep streets and public places clean and safe through litter bin collections and street and footpath sweeping. Council's Public Place Officers monitor Council's parks, playgrounds, roads, footpaths and street furniture, and report on their condition and appearance.

You can help keep our environment clean too.

Litter bins

Litter bins are installed in public areas such as business districts, beaches, parks and reserves. Collection frequency depends on the amount of litter produced in a particular area. Popular business areas are serviced on a daily basis, including public holidays.

In 2003 we collected more than 1,300 tonnes of rubbish from public litter bins.

You can help keep our streets clean by using the litter bins. If you cannot find a bin, take your rubbish home for disposal.

Street cleaning

Randwick City Council's continuous street cleaning program includes manual and mechanical sweeping of footpaths and gutters. Cleaning frequency depends on how congested an area is. In busy business districts, such as Randwick, Maroubra Junction, Kingsford, Kensington and Coogee, cleaning is carried out daily. In other areas street cleaning may be every two days, weekly or fortnightly.

How can you help?

DO NOT deposit or sweep waste materials into the gutter. Paint, oil, litter, grass clippings, tree leaves or anything else in the gutter will pollute our waterways and end up in the ocean.

Where possible, remove leaves, grass clippings and other organic material from the gutter as they can cause nutrient overload in the waterways. Organic litter can be composted or placed in your green waste bin.
