Before putting items out for council clean-ups, consider alternative options for your unwanted household items. Donate your items to charity, become involved in the Council's special reCYCLING program or contact the organisations below.
The Bower Reuse and Repair Centre Cooperative Ltd
The Bower Reuse and Repair Centre at Marrickville is running a joint project with Randwick and other councils to encourage diversion of household waste from landfill. Residents can phone or visit the Bower to find a new home for their unwanted goods.
The Bower will pick up goods and repair them if possible, then sell the goods through their shop. If the Bower itself is unable to take the goods, they will refer you to other enterprises. The Bower has a database of about 400 Sydney-based organisations and businesses who deal in second-hand items, from toys through to furniture to scrap metal. Staff at the Bower do their best to find a service near you so that your goods might have a useful second life instead of being sent to landfill.
You can ring the Bower, Monday to Friday between 9 am and 5 pm, on 9568 6280 or visit the Bower's Website.
