Creating a Permaculture orchard - runs over 5 Saturday afternoons - Randwick Council.
It's a win-win offering. Attend the food forest design course and take away the knowledge to create your own food forest in your home or community garden, no matter how small, while your learning helps us design and plant out the PIG garden (Permaculture Interpretive Garden, the educational garden at the Randwick Community Centre).
Led by professional designers experienced in planning and building food production gardens using the principles of permaculture design, you will learn the design concepts for creating food forests; how to approach making your food forest through staged development; choice of plants suited to climate; irrigating your plantings; soil improvement; and pest management.
We'll look at how to design and stage the food forest's development and will develop a list of plants that you could use. After the course, you will be equipped to design, plan and plant your way to returning food production to our city as you become a true urban bioneer.

Participatory Skills for Sustainable Futures - runs over 5 Saturday afternoons - Randwick Council
Here's your chance to learn those valuable participatory facilitation skills that will enable your community sustainability group to engage people in the growing conversation around our common future.
This course is for those of us who work where it counts and who want to work with people who want to learn. If you are involved in sustainability, community gardening or other innovative social groups, this course will equip you with the key skills for leading discussions with communities, planning future direction for groups, running public discussions at video screenings and having productive meetings that are fun and engaging. The course will enable you to engage in effective communication within groups and with the wider community.
Of particular use to leaders and members of community-based sustainability organisations such as Sustainability Street, Transition Towns, community gardens, permaculture, climate change, bicycle groups and bushcare volunteers, the Participatory Skills course is one of a number of community leadership courses offered by Randwick Council.
Do the course, discover your abilities in leadership and before long you will be out there leading your group in your own neighbourhood, and things will never be quite the same again.
