Councils sustainability initiatives have been recognised with a number of prestigious NSW, national and even international environmental awards, including:

 

  • a 2009 Sydney Water Award for the volume of water saved at Pioneers Park through stormwater treatment and re-use;
  • the 2009 LGMA Excellence in Sustainable Environment Award for Council's sustainability education efforts;
  • two 2009 World Environment Day Awards for the Sustaining our City program and the development of the Local Government Emissions Trading Scheme with 11 other NSW Councils;
  • the 2008 LGSA Dougherty Award for Council's environmental Open Days;
  • 2008 Energy and Water saving Awards for projects at Council's Works Depot, Community Nursery and Aquatic Centre;
  • the 2007 Banksia Environmental Award for Local Government;
  • two National Local Government Awards in 2007, one for water conservation projects in Randwick and the other for Councli's Home Energy Makeover initiative for residents; 
  • the 2007 Sustainable Cities Award for NSW, in the Overall Local Government category;
  • the 2006 NSW Green Globe Award for Council's Environmental Education and Awareness initiatives;
  • the 2006 International Liveable Communities Gold Criteria Award for Council's Sustaining our City program; and
  • the 2005 LGSA Excellence in the Environment Award for Local Government in NSW.
