Sustainable transport options

CarShare and Corp Bikes

Randwick City Council supports people who choose the many sustainable transport options when moving around our city (and beyond).

These options include walking, bike riding, catching public transport and car sharing.

Why not leave your car at home and think about some healthier, greener options for your travel?

Bike Mechanics and City Cycling Workshops

Randwick City Council offers FREE cycling and mechanics workshops. Save yourself some money and learn to repair your own bike. Or maybe you're feeling a bit rusty yourself, and want to scrub up on your riding skills. Either way, we've got a course that might suit you!

To book your place on a course please call the Council on 1300 722 542. A refundable $20 deposit is required when you book, but you'll get it back in cash when you attend on the day.

Basic Bike Mechanics

Is your bike sitting in the shed gathering dust, because it's got a flat tyre? Well, why not learn how to fix it yourself! Get to know your bike at our basic bike mechanics course. Learn how to fix a flat tyre and the basics of maintaining your gears and brakes.

Courses are held fortnightly on Saturday mornings, from 9am - 12pm at the Randwick Community Centre. Bring along your bike, an old rag for cleaning and any tools you already have. Basic tools will be supplied if you don't have your own.

Numbers are limited to 8 people per workshop so that you can learn as much as possible about fixing your bike.

Randwick City Cycling

Wanting to get out on your bike, but need to scrub up on your skills before you do? Our trainers will have you turning, signalling and riding on the road with confidence in no time.

All you need is some basic cycling skills, a bike in good working order and a helmet.

Courses are held monthly on Sunday mornings, from 9am - 12pm at Heffron Park, Maroubra. A large part of the course is on the road. Please note that this is NOT a "learn to ride" course. You'll need to be able to ride a bike and already have some basic skills!

Numbers are limited to 10 people per workshop so that our trainers can give you as much attention as possible.

Cycleways within Randwick City

Randwick City Council's Bicycle Plan identifies existing and proposed key bicycle routes in the City of Randwick, with a yearly action plan to implement new bicycle routes.

The draft Plan was on public exhibition until March 2008 to allow Council to hear the views of cyclists and residents on the proposed plan and ensure the plan meets community needs.

The Bicycle Plan is designed to:

  • improve links to key destinations within Randwick City, such as the University of New South Wales, Coogee and Maroubra Beaches, and Heffron Park;
  • identify a network of on- and off-road cycle paths and shared paths that can be used by the whole community;
  • establish a practical works program for cycling infrastructure with priorities for construction;
  • link in with the Bike Plans of other councils and the Southern Sydney Region of Councils

Transport Access Guides

Localised Transport Access Guides (TAGs) can help you get around some of our major commercial and recreational locations. The TAGs are pocket-sized fold out maps that show you ways to get around - without a car.

The TAGs show you the location of bike routes and shared paths, bike parking, bus stops and bus routes, taxi ranks and car share pods as well as walking distances from various localities.

You can pick up a TAG from a Council library or our main office at 30 Frances St, Randwick. If you call 1300 722 542 or email General.Manager@randwick.nsw.gov.au we'll post a TAG out to you.

Downloads will be available here soon.

Car Share

Thinking about buying a car, or a second car? Why not consider car sharing instead? Car sharing gives you all the benefits of a car - without the hassle and expense of owning one. As a member, you have access to a network of new cars parked locally which saves you time and money. They also help to reduce the number of cars on the road, traffic congestion and our carbon footprint.

Council's partnership with GoGet CarShare has enabled the expansion of car sharing in Randwick City. Council has also resolved to establish preferential parking for car-share and hybrid vehicles. Keep an eye out for car share parking spaces around our City.
