Many councils around Australia, including Randwick, are actively responding to climate change issues.
The CCP Program (Cities for Climate Protection) required councils to reach five milestones as a way of improving their understanding and implementation of energy conservation actions and as a way of reducing their overall greenhouse gas emissions. Randwick completed all 5 Milestones under CCP.
Important milestones included the preparation and implementation of a Local Action Plan for Greenhouse Gas Reduction see Council's Milestone 5 Report(pdf 883KB).This local plan identifies the actions Council needs to take to achieve a 20 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2012.
Council has also led the development of aLocal Government Emissions Trading Scheme as a way of contributing toward the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions across local government areas.
