The Street Tree Masterplan (pdf 8943kb) contains a comprehensive set of recommendations for the management of Randwick's street tree assets as well as an implementation strategy which includes tree planting, principles for tree rehabilitation, priorities for conversion of overhead powerlines and the phased removal and replacement of inappropriate tree species.
The Street Tree Identification Manual lists the characteristics and cultural requirements of each of the tree species nominated for planting within the masterplan.

Why develop a masterplan?
The masterplan provides a strategy which seeks to conserve and enrich (where appropriate) our environmental heritage, while addressing the important concerns of urban water management, air pollution, appropriate species selection, environmental amenity and neighbourhood character.
The Masterplan strategy established a number of different precincts throughout the Randwick City Council area. They were defined by using elements such as topography, soil type and aspect, including maritime influence, as the major determinants. These precincts set up a framework for defining different existing environments and for selecting tree species that are responsive to the places in which they will be growing.
Precinct character, existing vegetation, original vegetation and its remnants, and open spaces were assessed to develop specific planting palettes. These palettes are quite distinct from each other and reinforce the differences between adjacent precincts.
What's in the masterplan?
Contained in each individual precinct section of the Masterplan is a brief description of the location and boundaries of the precinct and its topographic range, along with a colour-coded map of that area.
Following this description are the objectives and strategies for the precinct as well as a comprehensive list of recommended species.
A planting key and species legend detail where species should be planted and whether they are evergreen or deciduous, native or exotic. Tree species are given their botanic names but common names are listed immediately afterwards.
Also listed are species nominated for planting along main roads (arterial and sub-arterial) throughout the area. Again, these species are identified by their botanic names and their common names.
