Broadband for seniors

What is Broadband for Seniors?
Broadband for Seniors is a Federal Government initiative to provide free access
to computers, broadband services and free training to seniors.

What is the purpose of the Broadband for Seniors kiosk?
The Broadband for Seniors kiosk provides a friendly environment where seniors can learn basic computer and internet skills for free.

The kiosk has two personal computers with wireless broadband connection. This allows you to send and receive emails, access information from government websites, pursue life long learning and acquire new skills and interests in an online environment.

Who can use the kiosk?
If you are a library member aged 50 years and over and are interested in
learning new technology to stay in touch with friends and family, you are
eligible to use the kiosk services free of charge.

I have no experience in using computer equipment. How can I start to use the Broadband for Seniors Kiosk?
It is recognised that people learn at a different pace and that one-on-one
training on computing and the internet will benefit adult learners.

The Broadband for Seniors initiative is supported by Randwick City Library
Service's dedicated volunteer tutors who will assist patrons to use the Kiosk
services. The step-by-step training is customised according to the user's
requirements. We provide training documentation or you can download it
from www.necseniors.net.au

Do I need to book to use the Broadband for Seniors Kiosk computer? Yes. You can call Bowen Library on 9314 4805 to book a session. If you need the
support of a volunteer tutor, appointments must be made in advance.

What will I learn from volunteer tutors?

  • mouse operation
  • general keyboard skills
  • creating a document using WordPad
  • accessing Internet using Microsoft Internet Explorer
  • internet browsing and the Google search engine
  • introduction to email and how to set up a Gmail account
  • sending emails with text or image attachments
  • internet safety

Can I bring my personal laptop to connect to broadband internet while
accessing the kiosk services?
