Randwick Library renamed to honour Randwick's first female mayor

Randwick Branch Library has been renamed in honour of Margaret Martin, Council's first and only female mayor. Council decided to rename the library in her name to recognise and promote the leadership and historic achievements of women in the Randwick community.

Margaret Martin was first elected to Council in 1983, and re-elected three times in 1987, 1991 and 1995. She was elected mayor twice, in 1992, and again in 1996.

Councillor Scott Nash, Mayor of Randwick and Margaret Martin will attend a ceremony in the library at 11.30am on Wednesday 23 May 2012 to mark the name change.
