Nominations are now open for the 2011 Garden Awards. Each year Council holds the 'Garden Awards' to encourage Randwick residents to have a sense of pride in their gardens, to promote sustainability and to encourage the 'green thumbs' in our community.
Local businesses support these awards through offering prizes for each of the categories.
The categories and sponsors include:
- Best residential garden (house) - sponsored by Secret Gardens of Sydney
- Best residential garden (house - small to medium) - sponsored by Kennards Hire
- Best residential garden (flat, townhouse or villa) - sponsored by Clovelly Community Bank - Branch of Bendigo Bank
- Best native garden - sponsored by Tumbleweed
- Best school garden - sponsored by Amber Tiles - eastern Suburbs
- Best environmentally friendly garden - sponsored by Green Solar Group
- Best community garden (non-residential) - sponsored by Bunnings Warehouse - Randwick
- Best professionally maintained garden (non-residential) - sponsored by Andreasens Green
- Best kept nature strip. Awards will be presented to the best kept nature strip in each suburb - sponsored by Randwick City Council
Randwick Council encourages all gardeners to participate in the annual Garden Awards irrespective of their specific gardening interests. Many residents, community groups and commercial enterprises have gardens that are not only presentable but also significantly improve the appearance of the area.
